Commissions: SEFoS believes in its inherent responsibility to create new works to add to the already existing cannon of vocal repertoire. It is the goal of the festival to create a new piece each year, by carefully selecting the ideal team of composer, librettist, performance force, and artists. Each new commission, like the concert themselves should have some tie to the Southeastern United States, either through poetry, artists' birthplaces, subject matter, or historical significance to the region. Each commission in general requires a financial commitment of between $10,000 and $15,000. Integral to the long-term well being of the organization, SEFoS recognizes that the cultural organizations that are making their mark on the music community today are those known for the artistic and financial commitment to realizing new works.
Artist Grants: While many educational institutions, religious groups, and community organizations present a yearly music series, at present few, if any, focus on vocal music exclusively, and none in the style of programmatic presentations that is offered by our foundation. In addition, assisting other singers and collaborators to locate funding for special projects as a re-granting foundation will benefit our organization not only financially, but in achieving our goal of "presenting and preserving" the art form. Additionally, the organization will help acquire funding for the continuing performance of song literature as a re-granting foundation for only for those singers and collaborators with the talent, vision, and passion to create innovative projects in the field.
